These are some of my favorite ‘sharp’ things. I like having sharpened pencils to write with unless I am using a pen. I have been working on these word scramble puzzles in the LA Times and I like to use a pencil to fill in the answers in case I need to erase. The letters in words are scrambled and you need to determine the correct word and then solve a riddle, using some of letters from the words, the answer which is a play on the words. It’s fun to figure out the words and then figure out the answer, which is not always easy. Doing these word puzzles keeps your brain sharp. If I were to work on a math problem by hand instead of using a calculator, I prefer to use a pencil. It’s good to have sharpened knives to slice vegetables and meats. It is nice to look sharp in your clothes. Not nice to have a sharp tongue.

i love sharp pencils and i’m not a good word scramble person, but i do love to solve challenging crosswords, but use pen for those. isn’t it interesting how we have favorite tools, that we use to complete our challenges? it makes perfect sense, if you think about it.

You are brave using a pen with challenging crosswords, increasing the challenge. I love all things about words but I find the word scrambles challenging. I do like writing tools. Yes, maybe our writing tools have a special mojo. 🙂

Jumble has been around for a long time. I don’t know how they can keep coming up with word plays.

You’ve reminded me of how much I used to love filling in a daily crossword puzzle. I got away from it when I stopped receiving a daily newspaper and didn’t necessarily get excited about the online puzzles. There’s something to be said about having a sharp pencil in hand, ready to make the most of those little squares.

Very interesting way of thinking of sharp. You have a sharp mind. I try those word puzzles at times but even the simpler ones seem challenging. I generally stick with the crossword puzzles.

It was harder for me at first but I am getting the hang of it. Sometimes a word will take a while to decode. Crosswords puzzles are a challenge too.

Interesting pencil sharpener ad. It reminds me of how much I prefer the simple old type. Those electric ones are way too noisy for me. I inherited a bunch of pencils from my parents. You and Mary have motivated me to sharpen them and find that crossword puzzle book. Using a pencil like that an be comforting. I guess it’s nostalgia.

I was thinking about those ones at the back of the classrooms in school that you have to crank by hand. It’s nice to do word puzzles. 🙂
