I am not so pessimistic or cynical as this title, or the song it is based on, suggests. But reading the news lately about Ashley Madison ( and I hate that name and it does sound like it should be the name of a porn site), almost made me feel that way. Even more disillusioned with the state of humanity. Now I read that most of the women on the site either never used it or were faked. Then I thought some more about it and realized that the men who signed up for it could have done it because of…well I am not sure why they signed up for it…loneliness, sex addiction, pornography? I don’t want to make assumptions. Are they living evidence that confirms that “love is just a four letter word ?”
The angel voice of Joan Baez via CARLSFOLKCLUB:
But I do know that love means more than just a four letter word to many men. The men in my family and the husbands and partners of my friends for a start. So I want to put the other stuff out of my mind. I think I like the lyrics of this song better via countvonferson:
My contribution for: Stream of Consciosness Saturday
Means much more. Percy Sledge…wow, that’s a toss-back 🙂

Thanks Dan. I knew it meant more to you. Yeah, the song is a classic but I needed something strong to balance out the negativity 🙂

Hi,
I have to admit that I hadn’t heard of Ashley Madison and her comments on love. I don’t know who she is, but I can say her opinion on love doesn’t agree with mine. So, I haven’t missed anything. That’s the advantage I have of being so involved in writing my book. I tend to shut out those things that don’t pertain to it.
Love the Percy Sledge though. That brings back memories.
Shalom,
Patricia

Well I am glad you haven’t had to hear about Ashley Madison. It is the name of a website for people who want to cheat on their spouses. Glad to bring back some good memories!

Hello Deborah!
First of all, please forgive me for not writing you sooner!
Today’s post is something that I’ve been rolling around in my head since the news of the hacking broke…. Sad, sad state of your world, indeed… I’m trying to remain positive and remember that love and harmony reign over all, but this website AM (can’t get myself to write the name ) makes me frustrated…
I’m with you in your opinion!
Hope all is going well with you….
Many hugs,

Thanks Lia. Always glad to hear from you! I like that you used the initials AM, good idea! I can’t stand the name either. It is sad to me as well. But I am reminding myself of all the good guys in the world and trying to forget AM. Lots of hugs to you.

I found it astounding how many people were using that website. But you’ve got to figure, at least if most of the women were fake, there at least wasn’t much actual physical fooling around. 😛 Not much comfort, but still…

Millions of people were signed up. Yes I have thought of that too. That many, maybe most, people were probably not successful. I think it is the intention to do so that is disturbing and the men paid money to the site for the privilege.

Right… to most people I think the very intention is as bad as the act. Paying for it turns it from an idea to an intention.

Yes the men had to pay but the women did not.

I didn’t know that, but it makes sense with the disproportion.

I vaguely remember hearing about the website, but did not recognize the AM name. I guess I didn’t pay it much mind. These kinds of things don’t deserve much attention. Just more bad news the media is trying to push on us. The old songs you picked out on the other hand are a real treat!

Good you are able to ignore it, AM. Yes when I was writing this blog, and thinking about the prompt, I thought of the song. It was written by Bob Dylan. It seemed to fit in well. I enjoyed hearing Joan Baez again and I always liked When A Man Loves A Woman! Glad you enjoyed hearing these songs.

I had no clue about this! I just knew that somehow these dating sites have suddenly erupted all over. It almost dehumanizes love. That said, the song is perfect 🙂

Thanks Prajakta 🙂 It has been a bit of an eye opener for me too. Another dark side of social media.
