If we were having coffee, I would tell you that nesting birds do not like the sound of gas-powered hedge trimmers. Our gardener was here early Monday morning in the backyard sawing away at some of the bushes before I asked him to stop. I think it might have been too late for our nesting birds because their activity around here has dropped dramatically since then. I have not seen them at all for the past couple of days. They did like the site over our patio door. It is high up and sheltered by the patio roof. But it may get too much human traffic and noise for them to take up residence here.
I have not had much time for writing lately. I have been busy reading book reviews. I am looking for books that will interest my local book group and books that will interest me. I am casting a wide net for my own TBR list. I have 25 books on my library book list waiting for me to get back to them. It’s going to take a long time to read through them all because I keep finding more books to add to the list.

We went to a block party yesterday evening. It was great to get together with the neighbors. We haven’t socialized much at all the past couple of years since the pandemic. Starting to ease back into it. We were asked to bring some appetizers to the party. I am pretty out of practice with making appetizers. I bought some frozen ones. The instructions on the box said I should cook them on parchment paper. I only had wax paper and thought it would be a good substitute. On the wax paper box, it did say you could line cake pans with it for baking. It turns out it works ok for cake pans but not anything else. My appetizers baked onto the paper. I tried peeling them off but some of paper was baked on and I worried about people getting waxed paper along with their appetizer. So, I decided not to bring them. Luckily there was plenty of food at the party and nobody missed them.
Weekend Coffee Share is hosted by Natalie at Natalie the Explorer.

Tin foul might have worked in Liu of parchment paper. Maybe.

Yes, tin foil may have been a better idea instead of wax paper.

Sorry about the nesting birds. Maybe they will return. I hope so. Good capture of the roadrunner. Staying busy reading is a good thing. Enjoy.

I still have a little hope that they may return. I started reading your book too. I’m at the beginning. Your depiction of school life for the boys rings true, especially for kids that are ‘different.’

Thank you for saying that. I hood you enjoy the book. School was challenging got a lot of kids. I had several friends who had a hard time.

I did get a teaching credential a bit late in life in Special Education. I did some subbing and tutoring for a few years.

Hi Debbie,
I also have to keep an eye on the gardeners so they don’t mess up things with the birds. That’s a funny story about the wax paper. It seems like you have a nice community there. So glad you enjoyed your Bloc party.

I have to communicate better with gardeners ahead of time.

A block party sounds fun! I do lazy appetizers, usually meatballs in a crock pot. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll make bacon-wrapped dates, but then it’s a struggle to keep from eating half of them before the party 🙂
Great shot of the roadrunner!

Bacon wrapped dates sound pretty good. I would be tempted to eat them too. Thank you, Janet. I have seen the roadrunner around the community the past couple of weeks but hard to get a good photo. I’m glad one turned out.

Aw, cute road runner! I’d have done the same thing if the box said you could like cake pans with it. Hmm.. A block party sounds fun. Wish my neighborhood was more friendly. Not that they are unfriendly, everyone just keeps to themselves.

Thank for the encouragement with my cooking adventure. I tend to be a homebody. There are a couple of neighbors who like to organize the get togethers, which helps.

I think I live in an entire neighborhood of homebodies, myself included! LOL

It’s nice to be a homebody. I am mostly an introvert, but I have to admit it is nice to socialize once in a while.

Love the roadrunner, and that you got to go to a block party. Bummer on the wax paper fail. I think I’ve done that once too. Learned my lesson the hard way.

And me thinking frozen appetizers would be easy.
