If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the temperature is in the 90s F today. I am able to walk outside in this weather. I hadn’t seen any roadrunners lately and thought that they were avoiding the heat, until today. I spotted a large roadrunner and he spotted me. I got pretty close, and he made a whirring sound. I wasn’t sure if he was saying ‘don’t come any closer.’ He hoped up onto a tree and made his way up through the branches until I couldn’t see him anymore.

I had no idea a bird could climb a tree. That’s wild.

They hop from branch to branch. I didn’t know they would climb up so high either.

Whoa! They go up TREES? I never knew that. I don’t remember ever seeing the cartoon roadrunner going up a tree, but maybe he did!

I wasn’t sure they did either until I witnessed it.

skittish little guys.
They and my lizards could share notes about those scary giants that seem to follow them around – stalking and plotting. . .

They could communicate on their blogs but not up close because roadrunners like to eat lizards.

How cool! I’ve seen roadrunners here perched on cactuses, but I haven’t seen them club trees.

I had seen them jump up to the top of people’s fences including the wall around our yard. Then I saw one hop up the branches of our grapefruit tree. They are pretty agile.

Here in washington we’re supposed to hit the mid 90’s this weekend. Yikes. That ends up with a heat advisory for us..lol. I didn’t know that about roadrunners. How fun.
