Ronnie

My friend Dan Antion told me about this NPR interview with Ronnie Spector, originally Ronnie Bennett, lead singer of The Ronnettes. I had recently posted about their famous Rock and Roll song “Be My Baby.” She just released a new album. In the interview she talks about some of her memories of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

Here is the audio of the interview from NPR:

I noticed there is a book that she wrote about her life:

I always liked that song, and I have the original book, and it is so interesting to read about everything that went on in her life and career. If you get a chance to read it, it’s an eye-opener.

I was unaware of her story. When I saw her referred to as Ronnie Spector, I wondered about it. Then Dan mentioned this interview and so I did some more research. I want to read her book and I ordered it from my local library. I did not realize their group was #1 in the UK in the 60s. 🙂

Thanks Dan and for pointing me toward the interview. Yes she sounds very up beat and still going strong. I briefly read her bio on her webpage and saw she had written a book. Her history is an interesting and important piece of the 60s music scene.

I’ve always been fascinated with Ronnie Spector. Especially her “love” story and escape from Phil. He was one weird dude. I’m a big Tina Turner fan. I read in Tina’s autobiography that when she worked with Phil he would do some kooky stuff.

I started writing a story about 60’s girls group. Ronnie Spector is definitely an inspiration. “The original bad girl of rock n roll!” Love her.
