“Take a ride on The Magic Swing Carousel,” hawked the ride operator. We handed over our tickets and sat back into the chair. We spun around getting higher and higher off the ground. We hadn’t been on the chair swing ride since we were young high school sweethearts. “Remember?” my husband said. I nodded as he held my hand.
Something strange was happening. We were going up and up until…we were floating through a tunnel of stars toward a beautiful light. It felt so loving and peaceful. Welcome home.

Realization of an elderly couple makes me smile. Starting with a conversation is good and the climax of something strange and getting higher and higher captivated me 🙂
May be I’m loosing my concentration today but I can’t understand the meaning of “Welcome home” here 🙂

Well I think you can take it different ways. There can be a religious take on it or going back to the stars…I wanted them to end up somewhere else. The tunnel image is often associated with death. 🙂

I don’t believe in any afterlife but this is a touching piece, nonetheless.

Very nice. I love the different stories people come up with around these images. I’m very impressed.

Thank You Dan. Well the images cause each person to imagine something and I think it can be based on experiences, beliefs and even other stories one has read. It is kinda cool to me to because I would not have thought I could do this type of writing. 🙂

I don’t think I could. I’m amazed at how much people pack into do few words.

Yes I am amazed too and that is the challenging part when you have 100 words or less. 🙂

Sweet that they were together until the end.

Yes. I wanted to develop the characters a bit more but the limited words makes us be very brief and I think this was the direction I ended up going. 🙂

Wonderful story Deborah. They were doing something fun and wonderful together that they had done when they first fell in love into the passing of their life to the afterlife. Sweet story.

Such a beautiful story. I guess DEATH (or whatever entitiy prepares the passage) was giving them a good time in the end.

Thank You! I liked the idea of the Swing Carousel taking people back or forward in time or into another dimension. But I had the characters and had to figure out what they were doing. Ended up with them going on this journey. 🙂

I remember that ride from my youth, don’t think I could do it now! Vertigo, another old age curse! LOL And I used to climb mountains! Love the ride for this couple though. Lovely.

Thank you Renee! I finally realized you go by Renee. 🙂 I know what you mean. I had a bout of vertigo a while back. I don’t think I would like this ride either. 😀 Great you climbed mountains!

I almost told the same story! Love yours more, though. And I ended up going in a totally different direction!
