Coffee’s ready. Pull up a chair and grab a cup. If we were having coffee I would tell you this past week contained a loose assortment of things. I finished the latest book for our book group. I would highly recommend ‘Station Eleven’ by Emily St. John Mandel. You might think a book about a fictional pandemic would not be appealing in these times, but it really drew me in. After I finished it, I wished there was more.
We’ve been binge watching another series on Netflix, ‘Manifest.’ It mainly keeps me interested because I want to know how it’s going to end. And I started back doing genealogy research. That’s where I really get hooked. I think it is that there is something rewarding about finding records about people on my tree and following the winding path that links us all together.

Manifest, a Netflix TV series, has some interesting parts. The passengers and crew of a plane take off from Jamaica and land 5 1/2 years later. Then they find they have clairvoyant and telepathic powers. There are evil forces at play too. I have learned a lot with the genealogy research. Thanks for dropping by, Kelly.

I commend you for your reading habit. Mine has gone awol. Right now I am “making” myself read a non-fiction book I offered to review if I was sent a free copy. Now I have to put my money where my mouth is. I admit I can never find something I really get into via Netflix. My husband does though!

Ugh…I would scream “stop watching Manifest”!!! It is a fantastic show but I heard they are not having a third season!!!! Unfortunately, I heard that 2 episodes before the end of the second season. I sure hope someone picks it up.
Some day I may have to pick your brain with genealogy research. I am desperately trying to find information on my father’s paternal side. I’m overwhelmed by the DNA research and such.

I got drawn into ‘Manifest’ but it keeps going and going. I wanted to see a resolution. I knew very little about my family when I started researching. I found a lot on all the online sights. It helps if there is an online database of your country of origins birth, marriage, and death records. Then there is burial and obituaries. I started on Familysearch.org. It is free. Hi Deb. I just finished as much of Manifest as Netflix has and it ended leaving lots of questions but if they make a 3rd season . . . We’ll see.
I did enjoy it even though it’s not my normal genre. There’s been a few series like this that I started but never finished because it always seems that such series just keeps adding new rules of how some phenomenon is acting. Manifest kept enough of the rules and kept introducing new challenges between the characters that I stuck with it.
Sometimes, I leave such stories thinking how much I’d like to write something like it, but not Manifest. I still prefer my own writing to have deeper roots in either known or potential real world rules.

I would like Manifest to have a resolution but it sounds like it stays open ended. I really admired the writing in ‘Station Eleven,’ she does a great job intersecting the characters stories and it is very imaginative. Science Fiction is hard to write. I have tried it and I know what you mean about wanting the story to seem possible based on current science rules. Thanks for stopping by, Gary.

Geneology is the very definition of rabbit hole! I’m down a similar one at the moment – trying to document all the work Mum has done over the years and also trying to find my husband’s family. It’s so much more than names on a tree, isn’t it? #weekendcoffeeshare

Manifest is on Netflix and It’s about airline passengers and crew who disappear with the plane and lose 5 1/2 years of their lives. Then they find they have special telepathic powers.
