Weekend Coffee Share #12-Putting It All Together

Coffee’s up. Come on in and pull up a chair. If we were having coffee I would tell you my most recent favorite words are, ‘ no assembly required.’ My husband and I have been buying a few things for our new house. I ordered them online and most were from out of state. They are bulky items and I would not want to ship them back. So we had to make the best of it. I bought an inexpensive etagere that was a breeze to assemble compared to the chase lounges for our backyard. It took 2 days of hard work by my husband with some assistance from me to assemble them.

The patio table we purchased had the wrong parts and luckily we were able to contact the distributor and get the right parts sent to us.

This is how two lamps arrived. At first I thought they were broken and we were ready to just throw them out. My husband said it’s not worth the trouble of returning them because they were inexpensive.

Then he figured out we had to thread the cord through and screw on the socket.

We are dealing with shipping and assembly because we don’t want to go into stores to shop for this stuff just yet. I have now decided it is better, if I can, to order through local companies because if something is wrong or broken I can return it.

A few more favorite words are Free Delivery and Assembly. I was happy to order from a local store that offered to do both. And if anything is missing or broken we can easily return it.

I know. We just got a table that has a couple of USB ports and a couple of elrctrical outlets built in. We got the legs attached and decided we didn’t need the shelf underneath….

It’s always tough buying online…our daughter just did and had to return it…thankfully to Target and could do in store return. I work for a postal annex and I see the pain it is when people are returning furniture that I avoid it…lol. It’s so important to save boxes and make sure there’s free returns, otherwise it’s not worth it. But how exciting to be getting new furniture.

Hooray, you did get the lamps and the chaise lounge assembled! It’s a pain to have to return anything, especially during a pandemic. Thanks for linking with #WeekendCoffeeShare.

Ohhhh, I just love that lounger! I WANT ONE! She screams. I’ll be settling for a chair, though. The last time I sat on one of these it took two people to get me back on my feet. I do love them though. Have a great week!

Hi Deb. I share your frustration. I also lay some blame on the product makers sad excuse for instructions. We men get a bad rap here already, but when we try to make sense of instructions originally written in Chinese and roughly translated into English by people (apparently) who did not speak well in either . . . it just fries me so I avoid buying things I need to assemble and fear getting that much desired object only to find that wrong parts were mixed with what I need and bought. Buying local is a great answer. Good for you guys.

I’m so sorry you had so many frustrations trying to put your new furniture together. I hope I won’t need to order furniture online anytime soon. That being said, I am happy eventually you were able to put everything in order.

We too do most of our shopping online. It’s just easier and with both of us in “high risk” groups for the whole covid thing who needs the hassle. Our desks came “some assembly required” which was all of the assembly but hey, Superhubs is an engineer, we shall not be defeated by misleading instructions! 😉

Oh how I remember things that come in boxes…I do have a handyman husband but things take forever to put together and there can often be the dreaded missing part. Thanks for sharing! Denyse #weekendcoffeeshare

That’s a great chaise lounge. Hubby and I had a few interesting moments of assembling furniture. The instruction manual and diagrams made no sense. I still have 2 parts of the gaming chair that weren’t assembled. Nothing serious because the chair works fine. I think manufacturers should rather send a link to a video – that would be so much better. (The assembly option was not available, unfortunately 😦 )

Thank you, Regina. That is funny about the 2 parts left out. I can easily imagine that happening. A video would be good. We only get the assembly option from local vendors. Thanks for stopping by.

Don’t you just love it! I’ve run into so many anomalies with things that we order. My husband ordered a drone and the landing feet you snap on were two lefts instead of a right and left. I don’t think I’ve assembled one thing without some form of disappointment! LOL Thank you for the coffee!

We once chose a dining table for our new place at a big furniture store. When delivered the bag of bolts were missing. We returned to the store the next day, but they couldn’t give us a bag of bolts – we had to phone up and order. Weeks passed with phone calls, but no bolts. Then I had my flash of inspiration and suggested Cyberspouse phone up and demand the table be collected and our money returned. They agreed and luckily the money appeared back in our bank account, because the next day we heard on the news the company had gone into liquidation. Of course after five weeks we still had no table, but at least we hadn’t lost any money.

Not having the bolts would have been very frustrating, then having to wait weeks. It is a good thing you got your money back before the store went out of business. Online furniture shopping can be pretty tricky too.
