I am going through assorted stuff in my house in preparation for a big move. My intention is to get rid of as much as possible so we do not carry so much on to the next place. I have more than one box of my kids’ art work and school papers, mostly from elementary school. I went through a large box yesterday thinking I would be able to throw out some of it. I ended up keeping most of it. Their drawings and notes are just so precious to me. I did have some laughs reading a few of their notes. One from my daughter said ‘I was the meanest Mom she ever met.’ Most of her notes are very loving but I must have fell out of her graces at that point. My son would write more formal letters addressed to Mom and Dad, and when he was really serious, to Mr. and Mrs. Drucker. I just can’t throw this stuff out. Someday, when they go through our stuff, I think they will find it funny and sweet as well.

Awww. Very sweet. I did something similar for reasons other than a move. Showed my kids their stuff both said go ahead and toss. All that paper into the recycling. A few articles to Goodwill. Though my oldest did keep a red stuffed dinosaur. I’m glad you’re saving those mementos.

The notes and letters are the things you absolutely must keep. I’m sure you’ll find many other things that can find their way to Goodwill, a friend or the dumpster.

I know for a fact that my mum has ‘collections’ of memorabilia from our growing up days – we are full-grown adults now! I wonder how often she gets these things out and looks at them?

My collection got stashed away in the garage and I had forgotten about what was saved. But it is fun to go through it all again.

I got a good chuckle from, “Mr. and Mrs. Drucker.” When I went through my parent’s stuff, I was happy to consolidate two boxes into one or three folders into one. Take care!

I can surely appreciate this. Before my parents final move they had us go through the attic and I found a box full of my old notes — the kind you folded up special and passed to your boyfriend in the halls. I threw them all out but not before I spent an entire afternoon reading up there.

It takes you back to a time you may have forgotten, doesn’t it. I tried looking at all the stuff but realized it will take more than one sitting.

That was a really sweet posting. It made me chuckle. I’m the same way. Can’t throw the stuff out. Moving is a big deal. I wish you weren’t moving but I think a good choice for you. The desert is not too far away. Hope it all goes smoothly.
