Just One Day At A Time

Taking it one day at a time and still feeling some disorientation. I am learning to order groceries online and find it is not as easy as it might seem. Have to think more about what I need in the house for more than a week. I don’t know if I will get what I have ordered because there are still shortages. Then it might take another week to get a delivery.  We have been advised to stay at home, not even go out for groceries or anything if possible for the next 2 weeks, by our government officials here in Southern California. I did get most of what I ordered yesterday so that is good. I planned to make some homemade chicken soup but realized I forgot to order some of vegetables, parsnips and rutabega. My husband and daughter said the soup was good. I go along during the day and forget what I am doing sometimes from one moment to the next. Good old Corona stress. I am grateful I do have food, a roof over my head, and my family.

*Re-blogged for April 11,2020 Realized I was off the schedule for A-Z 2020 because I need to skip Sunday. I wondered why Linda G Hill and I were off by one day and she helped me see the light. Speaking of light, the word for today’s Stream of Consciousness is ‘joint.’ I feel AS IF I have been smoking lots of joints lately because of the disorientation of this pandemic crisis. I never smoked marijuana because I did not like the smell of it for one thing but I have heard those marijuana gummy bears are good for pain and sleep. Not ready to try it yet.

#Stream of Consciousness Saturday,#SOCS, is hosted by Linda G Hill.

The soup sounds delicious. I hope you’ll stay safe and soon get used to thinking longterm when it comes to shopping. We can still go out to do “essential” shopping but I always wonder what that might be. Surely our vegetarian no-fizzy-drink shopping is different to that of our neighbours who aren’t vegetarian. But never mind. Happy Friday despite everything 🙋‍♀️🐝🌻

We were allowed to go shopping until just recently the LA County Public Health officials said better stay at home and avoid even shopping if at all possible. We are trying to stop the spread of this virus. Your diet sounds healthy. Thinking of you! ❤

I am sorry to hear that. Seems ok here but we have a veg patch and so close to the sea some things grow throughout winter like chard and Welsh Onion. My husband also knows about wild food in our garden like nettles. You can use the tops up until June for soup, pizza and pesto. It’s a little like spinach

That is hard that you do not have the option to order groceries. The stores here are getting overloaded with requests and the delay in delivery is a result also not having the delivery workers too. When the stay at home started here one store couldn’t handle it and cancelled my order. So it is not working as well as it used to before this crisis but it is still available with delays here. Thank you, Irene. Stay well.

Thank you, Dan. We do celebrate Passover and because I grew up with a Catholic background I used to celebrate a little bit of Easter in that I would make Easter baskets for my kids and color Easter eggs. It doesn’t feel like a holiday weekend to me but we had our mini-celebration. 🙂

That is good. I am not into large socializing either but it is nice to be with our immediate family. At least my daughter is staying with us. We can’t be with my son and his family due to social distancing right now. So we Zoom.

Ordering online takes some getting used to. You might have to order a week ahead. One store requires you to enter your list right away, and after that you can only add a total four more items (two cans of something is two items). Also, if you change your mind or find an item elsewhere, you can’t delete it. Fortunately Walmart is much more user friendly.

Yes, I found one store would not let me change or add to my list. The store I ended up ordering the most from let me add to the list or delete right up to the day the shopper was working on it. I like it if they can check with me while they shop to see if I will accept substitutions so at least I get something. I do realize I need to flexible too.

Not going out even for groceries is pretty hard! We have an extended stay at home order too, can’t go anywhere BUT the grocery and the pharmacy till the end of the month. I think that’s what we were on before, but the governor spelled it out for us this time. I haven’t driven in a week, went to the store a week ago yesterday, thought I had enough for 2 weeks, but still feel like I’m running out. I go to the fridge sometimes just to inventory so I can keep the stress at bay for a little longer. It’s sad.

I actually feel safer ordering groceries though. I keep checking my meat and chicken expiration dates to make decisions on what to freeze. Afraid something will go bad and be wasted. It is nerve wracking when I run low on certain things and know I may need to wait a few days to get a delivery or the store might be out of it when my order goes in. So far we have been able to do pretty well. Yes it’s something we have to cope with right now.

I can relate to feeling disoriented. Sometimes I forget what day it is. I have not yet ordered groceries online, but I have been adjusting recipes depending on what I have on hand. Good to know those special gummy bears are available in case I need them one day in the distant future. Keep taking good care of you, no matter what day it is. 🙂
