Creativity Can Last A Lifetime

There are many negative stereotypes that can discourage us as we get older and they are very destructive. They paint a picture of diminishment and decline, but many artists demonstrate that our creativity can continue up to the end. Their stories always inspire me. Here is one story about a woman who is writing poetry at 101 and was recently published. “At age 101, this woman released her first collection of poems,” by Tara Bahrampour in the Washington Post. She explores this topic further in her article, “Creativity can last well into old age, as long as creators stay open to new ideas.”

    Thanks for sharing! I really think if we thought of playing as necessary at every age and creativity as something we all have (not just certain people with a particular “gift” for music, art, writing, etc.) we’d be so much happier overall. I know this realization has helped me a lot! 🙂

      Carmen Herrera was not given recognition for her work until she was 99 years old due to the discrimination against women artists. She has been working for many years and never gave up. I was hoping someone would notice the link to Carmen Herrera. My pleasure, Hilary.

    Thank you for highlighting this inspiring woman and reminding us that creativity knows no bounds. Although children are naturally creative, I’ve read studies that support the idea of creativity blossoming in later years. We need to celebrate artists of all ages. On my blog, I explore the creative process, particularly writing, and am looking for artists of various disciplines to interview.
