‘Rolling in dough’ is an old American slang expression for having lots of money, wealth. Some people think having a lot of money is the way to all good things and happiness.
Dough can be a flour mixture used to make all kinds of good foods to eat. You roll out dough to make bread and pastries, even pasta. Making this kind of dough can be very satisfying and worthwhile.
My mother had the knack for making the dough for pie crust. You need to develop a feel for the right consistency when mixing the ingredients and not handle the dough too much otherwise it will come out tough. Hers came out tender and flaky, just right. It’s a talent, a skill.
Some people have been rolling their dough all wrong to get their kids into college and their recipes have fallen flat.

My grandma had the skill for making pie crusts too. There’s definitely a technique to it. Great memories.

So true, all of it. My mother made wonderful pies with tender crusts. She taught my sister and I and we’ve been rolling pie crust since we were kids. You’re right, it’s a skill. Once, many years ago I was in a hurry and bought some of that pie crust from the grocery store that comes already rolled. I made the pie and took it to my mother-in-law’s dinner. She took one bite, looked at me and said “This is NOT your pie crust.” I laughed but was embarrassed. Never did that again.

Women in earlier days had to make their own pastries and learned from their mothers. My mother tried to explain how she did it once but I needed more practice. You can tell the difference but I think it is a lost skill to many. It is great you have that skill. 🙂

It took me a good 20 years to successfully make my mother’s pie crust. Now that I can, I take such pleasure in it.

I have not attempted it yet. That is great you persevered and conquered. My mother used Crisco shortening which I don’t even know if you can get any more and all that about being unhealthy. The image of handling or rolling dough appeals to me. It’s the making something with your own hands I think.

Myself living in a rent room, very cheep since it´s in a Spanish little town full of criminals and at one point in my life I was one of them so I can deal with them but it´s a shitty town, living with little money to buy food, little cigarettes, no money to go to see a movie, no money to even buy a ticket to go to the capital in Madrid since it´s a round trip that costs me 15$, not going to a restaurant in I don’t know how long…… I will actually stick to money brings good things and happiness. Not that I´m not happy, but it´s very stressful not knowing if you’re going to be able to pay rent the next month and not find myself living in the streets (again). The person who said the quote that ¨money doesn’t buy happiness, ¨ When at the end of the month I have to go to a food ¨bank¨ so the state can give me shitty food, I find myself thinking of that quote and also thinking on how many different ways I could torture the person who said that money doesn’t buy happiness.

I am sorry for your difficult circumstances and that you interpreted my post as saying not having money is good. I was referring to something that has been happening in my country recently, rich parents helping their children cheat on tests to get into prestigious colleges and paying huge bribes to people to get their children admitted to universities when the students are not qualified and probably would not be considered for admission. Many less affluent and poor students can not bribe college officials or pay someone to take their tests. This scandal has shocked many people in this country.
I hope your situation improves and you have more income to help you.

Sorry from me for misinterpreting you in the first place. I really am, I came off as a real A-hole and that is something I don’t like at all, I don’t like it when they do it to me so worst if I do it to someone else commenting so… just being an A-hole really.
About the topic at hand I guess that money buys everything. It can corrupt certain people for sure, or most people.
