‘O sole mio!’ is Neapolitan for ‘my sunshine, or ‘my sun.’ You probably have heard the well-known song. I feel silly because I always thought it meant ‘lonely me’ or ‘by myself.’ You know solo, alone. ‘O sole mio!’ is a prettier song than ‘You Are My Sunshine,’ but looks like they mean the same thing.
I don’t mind solitude but hated losing our wifi the other day. No streaming video, no internet, yikes! So guess what ? I read a 455 page book in 2 days. I thought I did not have the patience to read books any more and I am glad to find out that I do. It was ‘The Legacy’ by Yrsa Sigurdardóttir, an Icelandic author. I read one of her books a few years ago, ‘Ashes to Dust,’ and I really liked it. This latest was another page turner. Now I am starting another by the same author titled, ‘I Remember You.’ This one is spooky, scary, about ghosts creaping around and I think they kill people. Have just started so I will have to let you know. Not good to read it before you are going to sleep. I kept the night-light on for a while last night. And good that I wasn’t sleeping solo.
Stream of Consciousness Saturday, #SOCS, is hosted by Linda G Hill. Today’s prompt is ‘soul/sole.’ Video of The Three Tenors, Pavarotti, Domingo, and Carrera via tiziano po on You Tube.

Well done! A very interesting use of the prompt. I have been ending the night with reading (books) since the holidays were over. I do enjoy it.

I would like to read books before bedtime myself but got out of the habit. It is good to delve into them again. Thank you, Dan. 🙂

I have a huge pile next to the bed. I had gotten out of the habit, too.

Ah to read a 455 page book in two days is the best. Looks like losing wifi was a bonus. I have two different books going right now. I rediscovered the joy of reading. Like reuniting with a long lost friend.

That book definitely held my attention. I do love page turners. Without wifi I had to do something 😉 I am glad I got back into books too. 🙂

Oh, too funny, for you see I thought the song was about “solitary me” as well. 🙂 I also have thought I was unable to do deep reading any more because I can’t currently focus, but I’ve been proving myself wrong, and gladly so. Your Icelandic author sounds interesting. :::makes note:::

There can be lots of distractions that pull us away from reading. It is nice when we can really enjoy a book and that relieves stress I think. Thanks for letting me know I wasn’t the only one who misunderstood the language of Sole Mio. 🙂

I read books sometimes before bed, but by then it’s so late there isn’t much time so I don’t get wrapped up in the book like I used to and it takes a long time to finish one. Your way is more fun I think. One of these nights I’m gonna turn in early just to read a book.

I have done that too, started reading late at night and only able to get through a couple of pages. But it is relaxing unless it is like my ghost story book. It has been easier to binge watch video lately and I am glad I can still get into a good book.
