Panther P55

Panther, Puma, Cougar, Mountain Lion, P55 is what they named you, beautiful cat. You were fitted with a tracking device and crossed the freeway at night. They want to build you a bridge not too far from where I live so you and other Mountain Lions can cross the freeway safely and so your species can survive here in Southern California.

“Los Angeles is one of only two megacities in the world (the other is Mumbai) that have big cats living within the city limits. In a place more often associated with freeways and traffic, the fact that the city can support such large-ranging animals is a testament to the quality of open space and the habitat connectivity that still remains.”-National Park Service

People here are working to help the mountain lions survive. The trouble is the freeways cut through their territory and they can get hit by cars. So there are plans to build this bridge across the freeway for the big cats and funds are being raised to do it. We do have a lot of nature around here at the edges of the city.

Very cool about the cat Bridge. We have had a lot of road construction in new buildings that have been taking down wildlife habitat. I’m very sad about this and I hope that whatever animals were living there find new homes.

It is a problem here too because our developments do encroach on wildlife areas. That’s way we have problems sometimes with mountain lions and coyotes attacking pets. We have bobcats here that have gotten poisoned eating rats that were poisoned by people. There may be ways to help your local wildlife. It is good to preserve some open space too. 🙂

Yes they’re around us. They have been found in Griffith Park and P55 crossed over the freeway not too far from where I live. They need a big territory to widen their gene pool and they like to roam a big territory anyway.
