I have been wanting to get back into my small backyard garden and now that the weather is getting nicer I have been going out.  I have been weeding periodically and I am noticing that the succulents I planted are growing and some are blooming. I was excited to see this one with a big stalk shooting up:

And I did not remember the name of the plant. Then I noticed it had a tag:

Gasteria arborescens

Here are a few more of my succulents:

Pretty blue gray ‘Cassyz Winter’ Echeveria
Furry leaves with spotted brown edges
Prickly one

And here’s some of my wooly thyme ground cover. I will probably plant more because it has not covered as much of the space as I hoped it would:

The sage plants are doing well:

I have a dwarf lime tree that I need to plant:

My dwarf lemon is already planted and starting to bloom

It’s nice to see that these plants are doing well even though I am new at this.  I plan to scale the retaining wall this weekend, ( don’t worry it is not too tall), dig a hole in the terrace, and plant the lime tree. I hope it likes it there.

    Hi Debbie,

    I enjoyed your post since I also enjoy gardens. I don’t spend enough time enjoying them. I also get so excited with the new blooms and shoots. When I was at our house for the shower, I notice how lovely your yard was. You have a lot to be proud of with all the changes you have made inside and outside of your home. I think I will get a lime tree as well. I have two lemons now and they are doing well. I don’t have that many succulents but I hope to do more with the succulents. Thanks for sharing all of the photos. Some day in the not too distant future, Gavin will be enjoying your yard and the pool too. It’s hard to imagine him now as a big boy but time passes and then you say, ‘Where did the time go? How’d he get so big?” Keep me posted about his progress. How much does he weigh now? He is a very cute baby.

      Thank you, Cynthia. ❤ Succulents do really well here in Southern California and I can say from my limited experience they are not hard to grow. Thanks for asking about Gavin. He now weighs 5 lbs.

    Is that rosemary in the top picture? It looks like it’s doing well. I feel excited for you and can almost smell the limes, sage, rosemary and thyme. Throw in some parsley and we’d be going to Scarborough Fair. 😉

      Ha, ha very true about Scarborough Fair. Yes that is rosemary and it is really doing well. My daughter planted it as a small plant. I need to prune it back again. The sage smells great. When I am out there I like to brush my hand over the sage and get the fragrance. It is lovely. I have some lavender too. No parsley though. 🙂
