The consensus of the conference of leading astronomers was we are not ready for Active SETI. The issue of whether or not to attempt contact with extraterrestrial species needed to be approved by the people of the Earth because there are risks involved. This wasn’t going to hold back Dr. V. He had the high-powered device ready to begin operations. Private donors had funded his research. He would direct the high-powered signal toward KIC 8462852. The transmission was picked up first by the alien’s sensors on Pluto. It triggered the devices buried on earth. They rose from their hiding places.

        Yes, I had to google this to refresh my memory, but I remember this episode of The Twilight Zone. Really creepy, scary. I think it is a worthwhile discussion, that scientists and other are really having, that extraterrestrials if and when we come in contact with them may not be so benign. Besides differences in language, they could have a totally different value system.

      I think these aliens in my fiction are different from us, definitely more technologically advanced, and we don’t know what the outcome will be when we have contact. But they have just turned their eyes toward us as they intercepted our signal.

    Great story, I love a good SciFi. Why did they hide in the first place, though? The Pandora’s box is already open, we’ve already sent out that golden record with Voyager, and revealed quite a bit about us, including where we are, to whoever picks it up and deciphers it.

      Thank You! I love the Voyager mission but some people say that it is not a very loud message like a high powered radio transmission aimed at a particular spot wound be. I think they were watching until we showed some technological advancement and then decided it was time to make contact. The only trouble is we do not know what their motives are yet.

        I am not so sure because they are technologically superior. So we can not take their good intentions for granted. And other people have pointed out that, like when the European culture made contact with indigenous peoples, even when intent may have been benign, the impact on the indigenous cultures was disastrous.
