Blue Moon

On Friday July 31, 2015 there will be a Blue Moon. This is the second full moon in the month of July. The next Blue Moon will be in 2018. There is something mystical and romantic in the name. I may drink some blue wine or at least some Cabernet. Maybe light a blue candle and listen to some blue moon music and go outside and gaze at the moon.

From Riul Doamnei on You Tube:

And from ScienceAtNASA:

Does the full moon have an effect on you? Where will you be watching for the Blue Moon? If you live in another part of the globe are you viewing the Blue Moon tonight?

“Blue Moon” was the first song I learned to play on the guitar back in the 70’s. I enjoyed listening to Tony sing it here and reading this sweet post. My husband and I plan to go to the beach to watch the moon tomorrow night. Hoping for clear skies hear on the east coast.

That is great Lucile. The moon here was very pretty rising over a nearby hill. Will you have photos? My cell did not zoom in so my photos did not come out. Have a beautiful weekend too!

No, I won’t have photos, unfortunately. I had a guest for dinner and we just looked at it a bit. I’m not good at photographing the moon anyways! I have one shot from my iPhone but it’s not that good!
        Thank you!

Just wondered. Me too, I took a few with my phone but it does not zoom in so the moon looks too small. I did not plan to have a camera or go to different location. It would have been pretty to get the shot of the moon rising. Maybe next time. 🙂

You inspired me to try a shot. Last night we went for a boat ride along the canals in Amsterdam and I made a few ones. The boat was moving so it’s not a perfect photo but I’m happy to have gone out to appreciate the moon. Thank you!

I’ll bet it was beautiful. Yes this whole build up to the Blue Moon reminded me that I do not go out to look at the moon or pay attention to the sunset very much. It is really nice to get outside and look at the moon and the stars.

It was very beautiful. And as we could move closer to the horizon line, it looked like a ball of fire.
Obviously we were on a moving boat so the sharpness of the moon won’t be there but the photo composition is nice.
I go out often to appreciate the sunrise and sunset, and occasionally the full moon. We have frequent cloudy skies so I cannot see many stars. But it’s always a pleasure and it feels like a bath of energy and inspiration.

I was thinking about my attempt at catching the blue moon and realized like you that it would look much larger if I got the shot closer to the horizon or in my case when it was closer to the hilltops near my house. It is good to appreciate it more often. 🙂

I got the best picture possible of the Blue Moon with my iPhone 6 and put a handful up on my blog, Deborah, but it was cloudy here in Syracuse. Otherwise, my dear wife Karen and I just hung out here in the Little Bitty and had a comfortable Friday night. 🙂

I like the photos you got even though it was cloudy. I did get to see the moon but my phone did not do as good a job. Other than my blue menu I was having a quiet night as well. 🙂

I was inspired by a post on Huffington Post about Blue Moon. I enjoy my quiet evenings really. We now have acquired the whole DVD collection of Star Trek TNG and my husband and I love watching it. And other films too. 🙂
