I am participating in Kat’s weekly challenge Kat Got Your Tongue.

Some may find it hard to believe that I could be an Introvert since I do have a tendency to express myself passionately at times or get a bit carried away. Well, I think my strong feelings help me to express myself. And it is easier for introverts to express themselves in writing. Almost too easy. Anyway I do fit into the description of Introvert because I do get drained by too much stimulation from being in large groups or socializing a lot or going to a big party. I need time to recharge my batteries. Down time.

Not only do I need down time to recharge, I relish it. I love being by myself reflecting on something, enjoying nature or reading. Maybe this is why I like cats. I think cats are mostly introverts.

    Gosh, you sound just like me in this respect, Deborah: I, too, need quite a bit of solitude and down time. Perhaps that’s why, nearly 17 years ago, I relocated from London to the tranquil Lake District. And I also like cats; at one time, my husband and I had three!

      Yes it sounds like we are alike this way. Would you like to participate in this weekly challenge? You can post any time during the week. You can click on the link on my blog where it says Kat Got Your Tongue. I like the challenges where they are so flexible. Where you can post one sentence, a poem, whatever you want. Probably because I am an introvert too, this does not make me feel like I have to say too much if I don’t feel like it. 🙂

        No you don’t have to write about pussy-cats. If you click on my link in my post you can read what it is about. She will post a prompt word on Mondays and then anytime during the week we can write something on that theme. LindaGHill does something similar on Saturdays. Called Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Well you know about that one I think. I know this daily blogging has been something. I can’t believe we are almost done with it! The end of this week. Then we can decide how often we want to blog. Yay! We are almost finished though. Can you believe it!!!

    I had never heard that poem, it’s wonderful. I love cats too, I know some people are “cat” people and others are “dog” people, but I love both, so what does that make me? I don’t have any pets now. I can’t afford to buy them food, Vet bills, kitty litter, etc. and I’m not able to take a dog out for walks… I would love to have a pet again, maybe someday 🙂

      Well I was looking for a cat poem and came across it. I think the play “Cats” was based on his little book about cats. Maybe you are both introvert and extrovert. Parts of both. We can be along a spectrum and I think Jung said no one is purely introvert or extrovert, it is a spectrum. I lost my cat several years ago. I just haven’t been able to get myself to have another pet. My son has a cat so I like to visit his cat.

    I’m also an Introvert who excels in expressing herself in writing, blogging. I am a passionate speaker too, but I’m speaking in my mind as I write what words I could speak out loud!

        Yes this happens to me as well. Sometimes I am able to speak out. But if I were required to get up in front of a large group and make a speech. Anxiety attack probably. I think I could learn to do it but it would be a challenge. Susan Cain who wrote the book Quiet does a great TED talk about being an Introvert. She learned to get up and talk in front of large groups while talking about being an Introvert.

        Sometimes I get in talkative mood at a party or family gathering, but usually a glass or three of wine helped me there! LOL I work very well with others one on one.

    I think that writing is an introvert’s playland. As an introvert myself, writing is where I can express myself with little to no inhibitions. Writing in front of an ‘invisible’ community is nothing like making statements in front of a group of people staring at you.

    I think my cat is definitely introverted and only wishes to socialise on her own terms. As to me, well that is interesting. I used to be the person who loved being around others but now I find that it just tires me out. Christmas shopping is truly horrendous.

      Well it sounds like you may be more introverted now. I hear yah about shopping. I have to psyche myself up to go into a crowded mall. That’s what great about gift certificates and internet shopping. But I just give a few gifts to immediate family because I can not afford to buy a lot of gifts anyway. Gift exchanges where you pick someone’s name out of a group are great for work or even big families because you just have to buy one gift.

    We have a cat and a dog and the two species couldn’t be any more different. The cat is aloof and independent and as close to self-sufficient as a household pet could be. The dog is needy and dependent, but exhibits unbridled enthusiasm and unconditional love in the deepest of ways. Everyone should have at least one of each.

    I don’t consider myself to be an introvert, just an introspective person. I think there is a difference.

      Well introverts are very introspective. Other traits of introverts are getting drained by being with other people for long periods or going to large social gatherings and talking to everybody. Introverts need down time to recharge. My cat, which used to be my daughter’s cat, bonded with me and my daughter and she felt close to us and showed affection.

        It’s not that cats don’t or can’t show affection. They just do it on their terms and for as long as it pleases them. Our cat will permit me to scratch his belly for a minute or two, but then he’s ready to move on. Our dog wants me to scratch his belly forever. She’s never ready to move on.

        I read an interesting article in Huffington Post. I think it was entitled Why Your Cat is Scared of You or something like that. But according to this cat expert, cat’s don’t like having their belly scratched but will tolerate it for a bit, because they feel very vulnerable exposing their bellies. Anyway, it was an interesting and funny article. I like dogs too. But if I were to have a pet I would probably choose a cat or a small dog. Like those cute Maltese with the short haircut.

    Word for word this article summed up how I feel being an introvert. The other day someone said to me in a comment that she doesn’t believe I’m an introvert because it simply doesn’t show. I told her I can hold a decent conversation and never socially awkward but it doesn’t mean I am not an introvert.

    I need at least 3 days if not 3 weeks to recuperate after being forced to socialize but no one knows that because I don’t tell. Great article!

      Thank you. Have you read Susan Cain’s book Quiet or she does a TED talk as well. I know I keep talking about her but she is an Introvert and does a great job of explaining it to other people. The Introvert Advantage by Marti Laney is good too. There are many negative stereotypes about introverts. I think introverts also adapt themselves to cope in an extrovert world.     Thanks for participating in the challenge, Deborah! I loved the poem. It’s always interesting to listen to a writer recite their poetry and hear it how they say it. I think cats are introverts and some of those traits are the same ones that cause people to say they are stand offish, just as some people think introverts are stand offish.

    And when I want to be alone, there’s nothing sweeter than silence or the muted background sound of my favorite music. 🙂
